At SKILLTUBE, your privacy matters. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, how we protect it, and what rights you have over your information.

1. Information We Collect

A. Information You Provide

When you register, we collect your email address, full name, and authentication credentials. If you register via OAuth (Google, Facebook), we receive the public profile information authorized by that service. As a Service Provider, you may additionally provide your brand name, business description, hourly rates, service portfolio, and geographical service area. You may also upload photos, documents, and work logs to showcase your completed projects.

B. Information Collected Automatically

We collect data on how you interact with the platform: search queries, videos viewed, categories clicked, pages visited, and request activity. This data is aggregated to power our "Top 100 Trending Skills" engine and to improve our AI-driven categorization. We also collect your IP address, browser type, operating system, device type (Web/iOS/Android), and session timestamps for analytics and security monitoring.

C. Third-Party Data

We use Stripe for payment processing. We do not store full credit card numbers โ€” we only receive payment confirmation, billing details, and a Stripe Customer ID. If you register via OAuth, your public profile data is collected from the respective provider.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • Provide Services. Create accounts, facilitate matchmaking, process tokens, and manage subscriptions.
  • Improve the Platform. Train AI categorization algorithms using anonymized, aggregated search and browsing data.
  • Trust & Safety. Monitor chat logs for dispute resolution, fraud prevention, and Terms enforcement.
  • Communicate. Send administrative emails, match notifications, security alerts, and optional marketing updates.
  • Analytics. Measure conversion rates, user retention, regional supply/demand trends, and feature adoption.

3. Data Sharing & Disclosure

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We only share data in these specific circumstances:

  • With Other Users. Your public profile (name, avatar, region, rating) is visible to facilitate matchmaking.
  • With Service Vendors. We share necessary data with trusted vendors (Supabase for database, Stripe for payments, LiveKit for video, Vercel for hosting) who are contractually obligated to protect your data.
  • Legal Compliance. We may disclose data if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of SKILLTUBE, our users, or the public.
  • Business Transfers. In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your data may be transferred as part of that transaction with notice to you.

4. Video Calls & Private Communications

Video calls use WebRTC (LiveKit) with automatic fallback to Google Meet or Jitsi. We log call metadata (time, duration, connection quality) for system monitoring and token auditing. We do not record or store audio or video content of private calls. Chat messages between users are stored securely and may be reviewed exclusively for dispute resolution, fraud investigation, or Terms enforcement.

5. Data Retention & Security

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active. Financial records are retained longer to comply with tax and legal obligations. We implement Row-Level Security (RLS) on all databases, encrypt data in transit (HTTPS/TLS), and use secure OAuth flows. No internet transmission is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction (GDPR, CCPA, Taiwan PDPA, etc.), you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
  • Delete your account and associated data (subject to legal retention exceptions).
  • Opt out of marketing communications at any time.
  • Data portability โ€” request a copy of your data in a machine-readable format.

7. Cookies

SKILLTUBE uses cookies and similar tracking technologies to enhance your browsing experience, analyze platform traffic, and support our service matching features. This section explains what cookies are, how we use them, and how you can control them.

7.1 What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your web browser. They help websites remember your preferences, login status, and browsing behavior. Cookies can be "first-party" (set by SKILLTUBE) or "third-party" (set by services we integrate with).

7.2 How We Use Cookies

Required for the platform to function. These manage your login session, authentication tokens, and basic platform operations. No consent is needed for these cookies.

7.3 Third-Party Cookies

We integrate with the following third-party services that may set their own cookies:

  • YouTube API Services โ€” for embedding video content (governed by Google's Privacy Policy).
  • Supabase โ€” for authentication and database services.
  • Stripe โ€” for processing subscription payments (does not set tracking cookies on our platform).

7.4 Managing Your Cookies

You can control and delete cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to block all cookies, delete existing cookies, or receive a notification when a cookie is set. Note that blocking essential cookies may impact platform functionality.

7.5 Updates to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy to reflect changes in our technology or legal requirements. Material updates will be communicated via platform notice.

8. Third-Party Services & YouTube

Our platform embeds content using the YouTube API Services. By viewing embedded videos, you also agree to the YouTube Terms of Service and Google Privacy Policy. Our platform may also link to third-party services (e.g., Jitsi, Google Meet) which operate under their own privacy policies.

9. Children's Privacy

SKILLTUBE is not directed at individuals under the age of 13 (or the applicable age of consent in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If we become aware that a minor has provided us with personal data, we will take steps to delete it.

10. Policy Updates

We may update this policy to reflect changes in our technology, business practices, or legal requirements. Material changes will be notified via email or platform notice.
